Soil analysis and characterization

The platform studies the role of soils in the environmental transition via the analysis of the different forms of organic and inorganic carbon present in them. 

For the purpose, the platform uses the Rock-Eval® tool developed by the Carnot IFPEN Ressources Energétiques, interpreting the results in the specific context of soils. 

Monitoring carbon in soils serves a dual objective:

  • firstly, climate-related, with the need to increase stable forms of organic carbon in soils for storage purposes;
  • secondly agronomic, with the need to ensure soil fertility with organic matter that is sufficiently labile to release its nutrients.

Plastic pollution in soils: IFPEN joins the French scientific community clearing the ground
The Carnot IFPEN Ressources Energétiques is contributing to two new projects - e-DIP and Plastisol - selected by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) with a view to pooling research on plastic pollution in soils.
